• Look at relationship between electric field E and intensity I

• The intensity is the power per unit area and is given by

I=P/A

where

A=pw02/2

and

wo is the 1/e2 radius of the beam

• For a field in a medium with refractive index n we find

I=P/A=(nce0/2)|E|2

• We therefore find that the second harmonic intensity after a distance l is given by
