Adrian Cross

Adrian W. Cross has nineteen years of experience in the free electron and relativistic non-neutral plasma physics, during which he has made many major contributions to the field of high power microwave and millimetre wave generation. Dr. Cross was appointed reader, senior lecturer and lecture at Strathclyde in 2006, 2004 and 2001 respectively, having previously held the position of senior research officer (1998 to 2001) and research fellow (1993 to 1998) obtaining a PhD in experimental physics in 1993. In 2002, he was appointed as an EPSRC Advanced Fellow.

Research

His personal contribution to the work of the Atoms, Beams and Plasmas group has principally been in experimental investigation of collective interactions between relativistic electrons and electromagnetic waves. Dr Cross’s research interests include (a) the investigation of complex electromagnetic structures to modify and control the properties of the radiation with which relativistic electrons collectively interact, (b) the investigation of the highly non-linear, non-stationary regime of coupling between radiation and electron beams and (c) pseudospark plasma discharges which are used to generate high current density (104 A cm-2), high brightness (up to 1012 A m-2 rad-2) electron beam pulses.
