Gordon Robb
Senior Lecturer

Gordon Robb

Gordon Robb studied for his BSc (1991) and his PhD (1994) in Physics at Strathclyde. He then obtained a Royal Society Exchange Fellowship which he spent in Milan working with Prof. Rodolfo Bonifacio. He returned to Strathclyde to work as a Research Fellow, and was awarded a Royal Society of Edinburgh Personal Research Fellowship from 1997-2001. Since then he has continued to work at Strathclyde and obtained a RCUK Academic Fellowship in 2006. He is currently a senior lecturer in the Computational and Nonlinear Quantum Optics (CNQO) group.

Research

Most of Gordon's research involves theoretical studies of collective interactions between light and particles. In recent years, his interests have been interactions between light and ultracold atomic gases and the Free Electron Laser (FEL) but he has also studied interactions involving nanoparticle suspensions and semiconductor electron-hole plasmas. He is interested both in the optical applications of these systems and the fundamental aspects of collective and cooperative behaviour in nature. His main collaborators are Brian McNeil at Strathclyde, Nicola Piovella at the Universita degli Studi di Milano, Rodolfo Bonifacio (INFN) and Philippe Courteille at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, Germany.
