Robert Martin
Professor of Nanoscience, Head of Department

Robert Martin

Robert Martin is Professor of Nanoscience at Strathclyde’s Physics Department. He has worked extensively in semiconductor physics and in the application of optical and electron-beam spectroscopies and imaging, having co-authored over 170 refereed publications and three patents. His current interests focus on GaN, AlInN, AlGaN and CuInSe2 materials. Prior to coming to Strathclyde in 1993, he worked on InGaAsP-based electroabsorption modulators and on magnetotransport in Sb-based semiconductors at Oxford University. In 2008, he spent 6 months at the Centre de Recherche sur l'Hétéro-Epitaxie et ses Applications (CRHEA) CNRS laboratory in Valbonne, France working on AlInN materials and GaN-based microcavities.

Research

He leads a number of EPSRC projects and EU networks on III-nitrides and chalcogenides. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, serves on the editorial board of Semiconductor Science and Technology and on the management committee of the UK Nitrides Consortium. He is a member of the International Advisory Committee for the International Conferences on Nitride Semiconductors (ICNS). He co-chaired the 5th International Conference on the Physics of Light-Matter Coupling in Nanostructures and was on the Program Committee for two recent International III-Nitride Conferences (ISBLLED 06 in Montpellier and IWN2006 in Kyoto). He held an EPSRC Advanced Fellowship from 2000-2005.
