The engineered optical response of artificial materials has had a dramatic impact on the physics, optics and engineering communities. These nano structured materials offer electromagnetic properties that are difficult or impossible to achieve with conventional naturally occurring materials. This one-day meeting on Nano Photonics aims to bring together graduate students, research fellows and academic staff in order to extend their knowledge and foster fruitful collaboration by direct interaction and discussion. The meeting will be held at the University of Strathclyde and will consist of five invited talks, suitable also for graduate students and young researchers, from internationally leading scientists from Heriot-Watt, Cardiff, Glasgow University, Southampton and Sheffield. Each talk will be of 35 minutes followed by 5 minutes of questions. The talks will cover the most exciting and promising recent developments in the field, such as innovative and cost effective fabrication techniques, one-dimensional structures, phonon-photon interactions and quantum dots.
There will also be a poster session dedicated to young researchers and two prizes for the best student posters. The meeting will be closed by a discussion on future research trends in this area. Lunch and coffee breaks will also provide an informal opportunity for exchange of ideas and networking.
