<p class="MsoNormal">Dear All,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">You are undoubtedly aware that the
University was selected in 2011 as the strategic partner in
Europe for the Global Industry Academia Cooperation Programme
of the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE) and the
Korea Institute for the Advancement of Technology (KIAT). The
objective of the Programme is to foster joint research
activities and the commercialisation of their outcomes between
Korean small and medium sized enterprises and the partner
university. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">So far, ten feasibility studies for six
month periods involving Korean SMEs and the University have
been funded by MKE/KIAT, and three of these have recently been
announced by MKE as full joint research and development
projects between Korean SMEs and Strathclyde, funded to the
order of £830,000 per project. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In recognition of the significance of the
collaboration between the University, the Korean Government
and Korean companies, the Korean Government’s annual UK-Korea
Science & Technology Partnership (STIP) Forum will be held
at the University of Strathclyde on the morning of 27 November
2012. The venue will be the Court Senate Room.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The opening of the event will involve
speeches by the Principal and senior representatives from MKE
and KIAT. Following this, there will be presentations on the
opportunities for funding for further activities between staff
of the University and Korean SMEs to be funded by MKE/KIAT.
KIAT will provide insight into the Global Industry Academia
Cooperation Programme. In addition, there will be
presentations on the three full research and development
projects chosen this year by the members of Strathclyde staff
involved in them – this should provide some intelligence for
future applicants as to what makes a strong application. The
Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning
(KETEP) will also make a presentation.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I hope that you may be able to attend for
all or part of the event, and should be grateful if you would
be able to make this information known to staff of your
Faculties and Departments who may have an interest in
developing research and development activities with Korean
companies funded by Korean Government. Those who would like
to participate should contact Katie Robinson in RKES to
confirm their registration and obtain further details – <a

contained in the attachment.<o:p></o:p></p>
