    The Principal's message, copied below, outlines the ADR process for
    this year. As in previous years I ask you to engage fully in this
    exercise. The timetable sets a sequence for the ADR meetings this
    year. I will have mine next week and am scheduling ADR discussions
    with the Professors for mid February. <br>

    I will advise you of your reviewer shortly but will wait until I've
    had my ADR discussion with the Dean before finalising the list. If
    you wish me to consider assigning a different reviewer to the one
    used last year please let me know.<br>

          process for 2013  has now commenced.  The ADR process is
          critical to our continued success as a leading international
          technological University.  It has my full commitment because
          of the significant organisational and personal benefits which
          come from staff having clear feedback on their performance and
          a constructive and supportive dialogue with a reviewing

          HR should be noted carefully.  Although time will be of the
          essence this year as we prepare for the forthcoming Research
          Excellence Framework, I would ask each of you to ensure that
          you complete your ADR discussion, with associated
          documentation, within the timeline indicated.  Whilst the ADR
          form is important and must be fully completed by all
          University staff, the one-to-one discussion is most critical
          and the forms should be concise and focused, especially given
          the time criticality of this year as we have the final push
          for REF. The timetable below starts with my own ADR
          discussion, emphasising my personal commitment to the process
          and the importance of ADR as a strategic tool for the
          cascading of organisational objectives.<o:p></o:p></p>

            year’s process, the ADR form has been simplified to enable
            more speedy completion.  Other enhancements include
            revisions to the objective setting process to enable you to
            identify which of the University’s critical strategic areas
            will be supported by each objective; the inclusion of an
            internationalisation dimension underpinning our commitment
            to building our profile as an international technological
            university; and revisions to learning and development
            planning to streamline this in terms of administration and
            to reinforce learning and development as a continuous

        <p class="MsoNormal"><i>In advance of a forthcoming meeting with
            your Reviewer, you should draft your <span
              style="color:#1F497D"><a moz-do-not-send="true"
                href="https://ben.mis.strath.ac.uk/login/">2012 ADR form</a></span>
            accessed through PEGASUS (2012 Review Period).  Your
            one-to-one discussion with your reviewer will start with a
            look back over the 2012 calendar year; objectives set last
            year will be brought forward into your new form and you
            should comment on progress against each objective prior to
            your review discussion.   </i><o:p></o:p></p>

        <p class="MsoNormal"><i>Given that the first part of the process
            involves reviewing performance during the previous calendar
            year, it is recommended that ADR discussions for all staff
            take place during February and March. The undernoted

            specific University level timetable has been set for staff
            below professorial level, each Head of Department/School
            will establish their own timetable in keeping with the
            overall deadline of 30<sup>th</sup> April 2013.  The ADRs of
            more senior staff with management responsibilities will be
            conducted first with the ADRs of direct reports to these
            individuals carried out next and so on.  Heads of Department
            will inform you of the timetable which will apply within
            your area but you should aim to draft your ADR form during
            January or February while 2012 remains fresh in your mind. 
            Your draft ADR form should then be sent to your reviewer a
            week before the scheduled one-to-one meeting.  In order to
            complete the online form, you will need to know who will be
            conducting the review discussion with you. This information
            may already be known but, if you are unsure, please ask your
            Head of Department/School to confirm who will be your
            reviewer for the ADR process.</i><o:p></o:p></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><i> </i><o:p></o:p></p>
        <p class="MsoNormal"><i>Academic and Research staff who use Pure
            do not need to re-enter data held in Pure to the ADR
            system.  Rather, individual Pure users can create a ‘summary
            report’ from Pure which pulls out their data for the year
            and this document can be uploaded to the ADR system as an
            attachment. Your comments on contribution and achievement
            during the 2012 calendar year will then be a short
            commentary on the Pure information, rather than a record of
            the activity itself. </i><o:p></o:p></p>
