All,
Dr. Michael Strain from the University of Glasgow
will be visiting the Institute on Wednesday June 5th and
will give a 20-30 minute presentation on "Photonic
Integrated Circuits". The abstract is appended below and
it promises to be an extremely interesting talk, so I
hope to see a good attendance. The talk will begin at
3pm in the large meeting room on level 5.
Best regards,
integrated optical devices are extremely compact and
mechanically stable, providing an attractive platform for
many application areas and removing the need for the
critical alignment and control of bulk optical setups.
By utilising basic building block devices, complex optical
circuits have been realised for use as all-optical signal
processors, biosensors, ultrashort pulse generators and
measurement devices. Furthermore, recent advances in
post-fabrication tuning of individual components has
allowed the creation of flexible, reconfigurable circuits
whose functionality can be simply modified through direct
electrical connection. I will show experimental
demonstrations of reconfigurable circuits for signal
processing, biosensing and mode-locked laser control,
realised across multiple material platforms.
