convention has a different theme, decided by the local
organising committee. In 2014, the emphasis will be on the
interface between science fact and science fiction. There
will be programme items exploring how developments in
real-world science inform literature, and how science
fiction sometimes becomes science fact.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Golden Jubilee celebrations, Science Faculty has agreed to
host a mini-symposium at the convention showcasing some of
the cutting edge science taking place at Strathclyde. This
will take place on Monday 21st April 2014. We are
looking to recruit 2 or 3 enthusiastic and dynamic speakers,
preferably from different departments, to give presentations
on recent developments in their research areas. The
convention membership will consist mainly of science fiction
fans, authors, and publishers. Hence, the talks should be at
a level accessible to members of the public with a general
interest in science but no specialist knowledge.
