staff would like to begin the transition towards compliance
with HEFCE’s OA policy. From w/b 07 July 2014 the library
will observe the HEFCE policy, thus ensuring the future
eligibility of Strathclyde research outputs. All
peer-reviewed journal and conference outputs with an ISSN
should therefore be recorded in PURE and, before they can be
validated, a version of the final peer-reviewed manuscript
needs to be deposited at the point of acceptance.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">The HEFCE
policy still comes into effect on 01/04/2016 however it is
felt that changes to the processes now will help to embed
practices for ensuring that outputs are deposited in a HEFCE
OA compliant way prior to the next REF. A notice regarding
this change will be included in the next weekly digest. If

<p class="MsoNormal">During the recent REF debrief meetings we
discussed developments with regards to Open Access (OA)
publishing that will have an impact on publishing activities
in your UoA. There was an action on me to send further
information regarding these developments and sources of
information that could be used to ascertain publishers’ and
journals’ approaches to OA. The email below contains
information and links to resources that will allow colleagues
in your UoA to comply with current mandates from RCUK, HEFCE
and others.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The most notable recent developments with
regards to OA are:<o:p></o:p></p>

similar policies regarding OA or are intending to implement
such policies.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">There are currently two options that can be
exploited for making your outputs OA in line with funders'
requirements. These are known as Green Open Access and Gold
Open Access.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Green Open Access<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This can be achieved by depositing an
author final version of your text (the final corrected version
of the text prior to publication) in PURE free of charge.
PURE is a fully compliant Green Open Access repository. The
publisher of your article may have restrictions on Open Access
Repositories, including embargoes. You can check on the
restrictions imposed by specific journals via

<p class="MsoNormal">This can be achieved by paying the
publisher an Article Processing Charge (APC) after the output
has been accepted for publication. The publisher will then
make the output available in an unrestricted format online.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Funding Available for Gold Open Access<o:p></o:p></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">RCUK have assigned funds to the University
of Strathclyde that we can use to pay for APCs for
publications arising from RCUK funding. To enquire about
