<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black">This message is to update everyone on the plans for awarding this year's departmental allocations of EPSRC DTP (formerly DTG) and University PhD studentships.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black">Everyone has been encouraged to advertise potential PhD projects via the departmental website (please send project details to Audrey as per previous messages) and our FindaPhD.com
pages (contact me if you need an advertising slot). We also plan in the next few weeks to make our own 4th and 5th year undergraduate cohort aware of PhD opportunities within the department. I will contact you about the latter in due course.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black">It is hoped that we will begin to see applications from strong candidates in the next month or two. All interested students must apply through Pegasus and Audrey will make you aware
of these as and when they arrive. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black">If you receive applications for your project from a student to whom you wish to make an offer, please contact me so that we can discuss funding options. Our planned approach is
that outstanding students will be allocated funding from the departmental EPSRC DTP/University funds on a first-come-first-served basis to allow offers to be made quickly. Applications from candidates that that are considered to be good but not outstanding
will be held until early April when any remaining departmental studentships will be allocated on a competitive basis. Decisions on applications/offers through these routes will be taken by myself, Erling, Andrew Daley and Paul McKenna.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black">It is stressed that any offers to outstanding candidates will be expected to form a basis for future applications to other funding schemes to enable us to spread the departmental
funds as widely as possible. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black">Please note that all EPSRC DTP and University studentships will require a supervisor contribution of around £2k pa. We will expect this to have been arranged prior to offers being
made. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black"> <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black">Finally, EPSRC DTP and University studentships do not cover fees for international students; only UK candidates (by birth or residence) are eligible for EPSRC DTP studentships while
University studentships are available to EU students as well.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
