<p class="MsoNormal">As the general introduction of risk assessment for project students is new this year, I hope I can clarify some issues that have come up. A risk assessment is a requirement for IOP accreditation [1]. There are two aspects to this, usual
 health and safety considerations, but also programmatic risk.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Health and Safety:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoListParagraph" style="text-indent:-18.0pt;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo2"><![if !supportLists]><span style="mso-list:Ignore">-<span style="font:7.0pt &quot;Times New Roman&quot;">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
</span></span><![endif]>For consistency and record keeping, every project student will need to submit an S20 risk assessment form. This is even in the case where the project carries minimal risk, we would like a record that this was the assessment. For theory/computational
 projects, it should be a simple assessment, e.g. general office work or display screen equipment use. &#8220;No Risk&#8221; does not mean &#8220;No Risk Assessment Form&#8221;.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I would encourage you to discuss this with your students during your next supervision and have them write a short and simple evaluation (a sentence or two for each risk, impact, mitigation) of the programmatic risks of the project.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Literature Review<o:p></o:p></p>
