<p class="MsoNormal">We are at the start of the 4th year projects selection period which will begin in earnest next week, the students have to choose their preferred projects by the 15th Sept. The list of projects has been released via
MyPlace and you may have already have received requests to meet with students to discuss projects. The current version of the project booklet can be found in the idrive folder /Science/Physics/project/2017_18<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Each student needs to choose at least 5 (up to a maximum of 10) projects on their request form, each choice is to be signed by the project supervisor (or designated representative) to ensure that it is appropriate that the student undertakes
the project should they be allocated it. This is a sanity check to make sure that the student has the requisite background and there are no other issues that may prevent the student from performing the required work (e.g. ethical objections).<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">You may prefer to set a particular timeslot to see any interested students. I shall be addressing the 4th years at lunchtime on Monday 11th September about the projects and I can announce any timeslots. Please send
me details (time, date, place) by Monday morning for any such project information sessions you may want to run next week.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If you are unable to sign the form in person, an email confirmation of your (in-principle) acceptance of the student will suffice. Students will be allocated the projects in class rank order (based on 3rd year results), however
I will try to balance the load subject to the choices that students have made. A second round of allocation may need to be run the week of the 18th September.<o:p></o:p></p>
