Dear All,

As discussed at the Department Committee last week, this year’s
ADR process is now underway (see emails below for details and
guidance) and the deadline for submission of the completed ADR
forms for Departmental sign-off (following the review meeting
and any revisions) is Thursday 4th July.

You should all know who your ADR reviewer is. If not, please
contact Catherine. Your reviewer will contact you to allocate a
time for their discussion with you.

Whilst individual objectives will vary, for Academic staff
there is a requirement for specific discussion and objective
setting in relation to:
1. Publication quality, rates and volume, informed by the data
accessed via PURE and REF audit results (the scores for your
proposed REF outputs are available via PURE).
2. Research and other income targets.
3. Learning and Teaching portfolio and outputs (including, for
example, UG/PGT, widening access, NSS)
4. PGR student supervision and recruitment targets.
5. Broader KE contribution.
including a list of possible development activities can be found

I would ask you to consider raising and discussing any

forthcoming Research Excellence Framework (REF) and beyond,
we should work together to achieve strong research
performance, ensuring that we properly integrate research
and teaching to the benefit of our students’ experience and
the quality of their education. This is also essential for
the ongoing enhancement of our international academic
reputation.

specific University level timetable has been set for staff
below professorial level, each Head of Department/School
will establish their own timetable in keeping with the
overall deadline of 31 July 2019. The ADRs of more senior
staff with management responsibilities will be conducted
first with the ADRs of direct reports to these individuals
carried out next and so on. Heads of Department/School
will inform you of the timetable which will apply within
your area but you should aim to draft your ADR form and to
send it to your reviewer a week before the scheduled
one-to-one meeting. In order to complete the online form,
you will need to know who will be conducting the review
discussion with you. This information may already be known
to you but, if you are unsure, please ask your Head of
Department/School to confirm who will be your reviewer for
the ADR process.

previously, Academic Professional Staff and their
reviewers now have the facility to view a PDF summary
report of PURE data from within the ADR system. The PURE
extract focusses on more recent records giving information
relating to the period since 1 January 2016. The report
also includes citation numbers from the Scopus database
where available. The report can be accessed by clicking
on “View PURE Data (PDF)” menu option. This avoids the
need for you to re-enter data from the PURE system as it
can be referenced in the ADR summary. Your comments on
contribution and achievement since August 2018 should be a
short commentary on the PURE information for the review
period, rather than a record of the activity itself.
