Dear All,

Staff have raised some questions recently regarding teaching
requirements for Semester 1. While most has been communicated
previously, I summarise here what the minimum requirements are:

1) All lectures should be pre-recorded and made available on
MyPlace with corrected transcripts. These would be the voice-over
PowerPoint slides.
2) Synchronous lecture material delivered directly to students via
Zoom (e.g. key points, worked examples, discussion of issues from
tutorials, etc) should be recorded and the (unedited) Zoom
transcript provided with note that it may contain transcription
errors.
3) Synchronous tutorial material - the lead group tutor should be
recorded when presenting solutions and, as with 2), the (unedited)
Zoom transcript provided. Zoom recording should be stopped for
student discussions/questions etc.
4) Induction events: talk recorded, the (unedited) Zoom transcript
provided

Details of a suggested method of recording and much more helpful
information are provided in the Physics Playgroud on MyPlace - you
should have access via the 2020/21
page:https://classes.myplace.strath.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=25066
Regards,

Dear All,

Following guidance issued by the University on its "Learning
& teaching 2020/21 - Support & Guidance" website for
staff:

https://www.strath.ac.uk/coronavirus/staff/learningandteachingsupportandguidance/

and subsequent Teaching Committee and Departmental Committee
discussions, it was decided that the minimum requirement is to
have all lecture material pre-recorded with transcripts
available. This is pretty much the advice as discussed in
previous emails to staff (27 July and 29 June).

The University guidance is that all lectures must be
pre-recorded with transcript (document of lecturer's words) and
video captions (subtitles on the recording/powerpoint). We are
seeking clarification on the circumstances in which subtitles
are necessary. Meanwhile, a transcript should be prepared as
this can help with improving delivery and may (possibly!) be
used to generate subtitles, if necessary.

Please therefore ensure that your lecture material is
pre-recorded in short (~10/15 minute) videos with accompanying
transcripts.

A method to record the transcripts efficiently, along with a lot
of other very useful material, is given in the Physics
Playground on MyPlace. People may need to re-enrol using
the password “physicsisfun”.

Regards,

Dear All,

As you will be aware from previous emails, for the first few
weeks of Semester 1 we are expected to provide students with
online learning and thereafter blended learning (a mixture of
online and face-to-face). Some of this will be via recorded
and via voice-over-powerpoint or Zoom material. We are
required to provide transcripts and subtitles (captioning) of
the recorded material and guidance on this has been provided
by the University in the links below.

As a basline position, the minimum requirement is for
transcripts of all material. So, please make sure you read and
start trying this ASAP - it can be quite a time consuming
process.

If we find more efficient methods we will put it onto the
Physics Playground on MyPlace. If you develop, or know of more
efficient methods, please share!

Many thanks,

Brian.
