<p class="MsoNormal">I wanted to send you all a brief update on a number of items from the Disability & Wellbeing Service. Like you all, our team have been working hard to adapt provisions for disabled students in these unusual circumstances. This has in some
cases proven challenging, but with your support across academic departments thigs are starting to be much more settled. I’d like to draw your attention to the following information:<span style="font-family:"Arial",sans-serif"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<h1 style="margin-left:36.0pt;text-indent:-18.0pt;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo2"><![if !supportLists]><span style="mso-list:Ignore">1.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman"">
</span></span><![endif]>New student information <o:p></o:p></h1>
<p class="MsoNormal">We have met with a large number of students over the summer months and early part of semester and will continue to do so throughout the academic year. As needs are assessed, adjustment reports will be uploaded onto the Pegasus system. It
is imperative to highlight that this is an ongoing process and academics should check their class lists regularly to ensure they are aware of disabled students’ needs. Furthermore, it is important to note that DDCs only receive email notification when new
students are added or updated, you will not receive notification when students with existing Adjustment Reports join your classes. It is, therefore, imperative that you regularly review your class lists and ensure that everything is correct.<o:p></o:p></p>
<h1 style="margin-left:36.0pt;text-indent:-18.0pt;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo2"><![if !supportLists]><span style="mso-list:Ignore">2.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman"">
</span></span><![endif]>Student waiting lists/ prioritisation<o:p></o:p></h1>
<p class="MsoNormal">As always at this time of the year, we are experiencing a high volume of referrals and the needs assessment waiting list is lengthy. To ensure students on the waiting list have adjustments in place as quickly as possible, where sufficient
evidence exists, we will put <b>provisional adjustments</b> in place based on the information provided in their referral paperwork. Students with specific learning difficulties awaiting formal diagnosis from an educational psychologist, and where sufficient
supporting paperwork exists, will have <b>temporary adjustments</b> recommended for the first semester whilst they await their diagnostic assessment.<o:p></o:p></p>
<h1 style="margin-left:36.0pt;text-indent:-18.0pt;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo2"><![if !supportLists]><span style="mso-list:Ignore">3.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman"">
</span></span><![endif]>Exam arrangements deadline<o:p></o:p></h1>
<p class="MsoNormal">In a few days we will publicise on MyPlace that the ‘cut-off’ for requesting new exam arrangements for the semester 1 exam diet will be
<b>Friday 30<sup>th</sup> October</b>. We then hope to have any updates confirmed and uploaded to PEGASUS by
<b>Friday 13th November</b> to allow you time to make the necessary arrangements for the 1st Semester exams. New updates will continue to be added after this date, but we will be advising students that we cannot guarantee that any new adjustments will be actioned
by departments after this date. There will be students who have an unavoidably late disclosure that may need support, but we will continue to liaise directly with departments in these cases as we have in previous years.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">We have also developed accompanying procedures for the <a href="https://www.strath.ac.uk/professionalservices/disabilityandwellbeing/disabilitysupport/informationforstaff/guidancefortheprovisionoflivecaptioninginzoom/">
Provision of Live Captioning in Zoom</a> for classes where we have identified that requirement for hearing impaired students. This has required changes to be made to the global zoom settings (reducing administration at the host end) and collaboration with various
external specialist note taking suppliers. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Key to the provision of Note Taking in classes (whether Electronic Note Taking, Live Remote Captioning or Manual Note-Taking by our own team) is clarity of class timetables, and the relevant zoom links and passwords. Can I ask that these
are made available to our admin team when required as early as possible, and we are notified of any changes immediately? Booking and scheduling these resources is a complex task, and availability cannot be guaranteed so early booking is essential.<o:p></o:p></b></p>
