Dear All,

The University has released details and the timetable for the next
round of the Senior Academic Professional promotions process (to
Grade 8 or above). This email provides a summary of the
Departmental process for considering the readiness of potential
cases and the relevant deadlines for the next round.

The Academic Professional Appointments Panel (APAP) meets twice a
year to consider promotion cases. Potential cases from within the
Department are considered at a meeting of the Physics Professorial
Advisory Group (PAG), scheduled in advance of each APAP meeting.
Staff considered by the PAG to have a strong enough case to go
forward to the Faculty panel are invited to complete the APAP
application form, with support provided by a senior academic
(usually a member of the PAG).

If you wish to be considered for promotion via the Spring 2021
round of APAP, please discuss this with your line manager in the
first instance and complete the relevant Self-Assessment Form
(available at the link below). This will assist you to critically
assess your readiness for promotion. If you decide to put your
case forward for this APAP round, please send your completed
Self-Assessment Form and CV (using the APAP Template CV) to me by
noon on Friday 8th January for consideration at the next
PAG meeting. Please ensure that the key evidence in support of
each self-assessment score is provided in an accessible format to
enable PAG members to assess the readiness of your case.

Not all careers follow a standard, uninterrupted route.
Information on contextual factors and any individual circumstances
that you wish the PAG to take account of (if you wish to share
this information on a confidential basis with the PAG) should be
provided on the attached form. Such circumstances may include, but
are not limited to:
• Ill health or injury
• Disability
• Caring responsibilities
• Part-time/flexible working
• Periods of leave or unavailability, including those related
to maternity and parental/family leave, and career breaks
You may also wish to explain how these circumstances have impacted
on your work. Please note that the full APAP application form has
a section for ‘Personal Details and Background Information’, so
that such circumstances can also be taken into account by the
Faculty and main APAP panels.

Following the PAG meeting, I will invite staff recommended by the
PAG to go forward to the Faculty stage to submit the full APAP
application form and supporting documentation to me by Monday 25th
January (in an advanced/final state), to give me time to consider
the full case and to write supporting statements prior to the
Faculty deadline of 28th January.

The link below provides further information, including the
relevant guidance notes and Self-Assessment forms:
