<p class="MsoNormal">Thank you for all your work in getting the final assessments set up on Myplace. Before the assessment sections on Myplace are made visible to the students, can I please ask you to check the following:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">1) All review options for the assessment are turned off <o:p>
</o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">2) A separate facility for uploading scans/photos of numerical working not already returned as part of the assessment has been added. Please ensure that “This activity is not covered by the University Assessment and Feedback Policy” is
checked, “Extensions” & “Late Submission” are disabled, and Turnitin is not enabled.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">3) Any extra time required has been applied to the assessment on a student-by-student basis using “user override”. A list of disability students & their time requirements is available on Pegasus for each class.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">4) All final marks have been hidden in the Myplace gradebooks. This can be done by going to “Gradebook setup” and choosing “Hide” in the actions column for the relevant items (e.g. “Summative total”, “Class total”).<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">5) Please ensure that clear instructions on how to approach the assessment in order to mitigate internet problems are provided to the students. We would suggest to do this both as a “Label” in the assessment section on Myplace and also
in the description of the assessment quiz item itself. Suggested text is available on the Physics Playground, but I’ve also copied the one for PH183/4 below to give an idea of how this may be tailored.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">6) Please make sure that relevant equations sheets are available on the assessment section.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">7) Once you are happy to do so, please make the assessment section visible to the students and contact them to encourage them to read the instructions carefully and take a note of the contact numbers before the day of the assessment. The
assessment itself should remain hidden until the date of the assessment, but the instructions, equation sheets, and numerical upload site should be visible

You should not take a note of text-based answers. </b><o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><b>We suggest that you only start entering your answers when you have worked through all of the numerical questions. </b><o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><b>The questions are set up to accept values with 1 decimal place. </b><o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><b>The questions are set up with a tolerance threshold to allow for rounding of values. </b><o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><b>The assessment is designed to be completed within 2 hours by an average student, but you have 3 hours to complete and upload your answers. At the end of the assessment period, the assessment will close
by default and your answers will be automatically submitted. </b><o:p></o:p></li><li class="MsoNormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><b>After you have submitted your answers you have the option to upload a scan/photo of your working through a separate submission point below that we may use to award partial credit. There will be an additional
30 minutes after the end of the assessment period for you to do this.</b><o:p></o:p></li></ul>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Please note that if a student accidentally submits too early, re-opening the assessment means giving them a fresh attempt, and that also gives them a new set of random variables. The instructions ask them to try the “finish attempt” and
“return to attempt” process right at the start to let them see what to do – and what not to do. If they accidentally submit at this point regenerating the numbers is not an issue as they won’t have attempted any of the questions. Asking them to work through
the numerical problems on paper before entering their answers means that if they do submit too early then we can give them a second attempt in which to enter their text-based solutions, but we will have to mark their numerical answers using whatever they submitted
in their first attempt combined with the scans of their numerical calculations.<o:p></o:p></p>
