Dear All,

As part of preparations for Welcome Week, the following email
will be sent out to students late Tues 31 Aug:

-------------------------------------
Subject: The new Academic Year in Physics

Dear All,

The new Academic Year begins with 'Welcome Week' on Monday,
13 September and we are looking forward to welcoming your
return, or meeting our new students for the first time.

In order to help you find out what is happening in Welcome
Week and beyond, we have put up two pages of information onto
the Myplace Virtual Learning Environment.

Once logged in, you will be able to navigate via the
Dashboard to the first page, the Physics
Personal Development (PPD) page. This contains
advice and links to a wide range of information on such topics
as Personal Development Advisers, Year Advisers, University
policies on Academic life procedures, Disability, Health and
wellbeing support, Career advice etc, as well as information
specific to your own Year group. Please familiarise yourself
with what is available, as this should be your first
port-of-call for any questions you may have about your time at
the University.

The second page you should familiarise yourself with is the
Physics
Covid-19 Info page. This contains the latest
updates on changes that have had to be made due to the ongoing
Covid pandemic. For example, the revised timetable is given here
(which should be used instead of the one on Pegasus or given by
the Strathclyde app) and links to the latest Government and
University guidance on topics such as physical distancing
expected on campus. The latest information on the format
forthcoming exams etc will also be given on this page.

So, please start having a look at these pages before
Welcome Week and beyond, and familiarise yourself with them as
you will be referring to them in the coming months of the new
Academic Year.

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your Summer break, and
we look forward to seeing you soon!

Regards,

The Physics Department!
-------------------------------------------------

The PPD page is currently being upgraded and will be made
available to students before the email is sent out.

The Covid-19 Info page is currently available to students and
they have been informed of this. Both of these pages will become
repositories for important information for students, and staff.

We would like staff to meet with their PDA students in Week 2 of
the new Semester, preferably afternoon of Wed 29 Sept. If you
cannot do Wed., please try to meet in Week 2 at some time. Your
previous PDA students are available on Pegasus (Student Experience
>> Your Student Responsibilities) and Melanie will shortly
be sending out details to those who will be getting any new entry
PDA students. The PDA forms that students complete will be
available under the Year toggles on the PPD page. These will be
updated by the Advisers of Study for Welcome Week at the latest.

Can staff teaching modules in Semester 1 also please open up
their module pages on Myplace to students preferably from next
Tuesday and certainly before Welcome Week. This will allow them to
gain access and have a browse. Please make sure you hide any
material that students should not yet have access to - e.g.
lecture, tutorial and assessment material. For example, I have a
Welcome video, Class Information sheet and Recommended textbooks
visible to students. All material under the weekly toggles is
hidden.

Thanks,

Brian
