<p class="MsoNormal">Annual progress assessments for PhD students, which usually take place in September, were suspended this year due to the marking & assessment boycott.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In order that students do not go too long without a substantial review of progress, students will shortly be asked to submit their annual review forms via SPIDER a few days before the Xmas break. This should allow supervisors to complete
their section of the review form before Xmas so that we are able to hold progress vivas on return in January. I hope to hold as many progress vivas as possible in the consolidation week (beginning 8<sup>th</sup> Jan) before teaching starts again.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As usual, 1<sup>st</sup> year students will be asked to upload an extended report with the form, and 2<sup>nd</sup> year students will be asked to upload a draft paper.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">An important part of PhD training is the opportunity to present student work via talks etc. However, it’s not going to be practical to arrange our usual postgraduate conference during teaching time. I therefore ask that groups/supervisors
ensure that students have or have had the opportunity to present talks within their groups or elsewhere. I know some groups do this as routine in any case – if providing your student with such an opportunity is likely to be a problem, please let me know and
I will organise something for them.<o:p></o:p></p>
