<p class="MsoNormal">The IoP's Bell Burnell Graduate Scholarship Fund (BBGSF) is open for applications from students who wish to study for a PhD in Physics.<br>
<br>
The fund aims to encourage greater diversity in Physics by supporting students from groups which are currently under-represented (see fund guide below for full details). For the purpose of this fund the
<br>
definition of under-represented groups in physics refers to : women, students of Black-Caribbean, Black-African and other minority ethnic (BAME) heritage, students with disabilities, or who require additional funding to support inclusive learning, LGBT+ students
and students from disadvantaged backgrounds who may struggle to find the levels of funding needed to complete their studies. People with qualifying refugee status who meet the above criteria are also encouraged to apply;
<br>
<br>
Further information about the fund and the application process can be found at <a href="https://beta.iop.org/bellburnellfund">https://www.iop.org/bellburnellfund<span style="color:windowtext;text-decoration:none"><br>
</span></a><br>
Eligibility criteria etc. can be found in the fund guide at<br>

<br>
The Department is eligible to support a maximum of two scholarship applications, at least one of which must be from an external candidate.<br>
<br>
The fund provides £38K of PhD studentship costs (just over 40% of the cost of a 3.5 year studentship with a home fee + stipend). The department will combine this with University funds to cover the remainder of the costs to make a complete studentship (3.5 years,
home fee + stipend). <br>
<br>
The application process is :<br>
1. The candidate student first makes an application for admission to PhD Physics here via
<a href="https://www.strath.ac.uk/courses/research/physics/#apply">https://www.strath.ac.uk/courses/research/physics/#apply</a> .<br>
Candidates must also submit the following information for internal assessment :<br>
- a project abstract<br>
- a CV<br>
- a statement on Background and need for a BBGSF grant<br>
- a Personal statement <br>
This should be either uploaded with their PhD application or emailed to me (<a href="mailto:g.r.m.robb@strath.ac.uk)%0b">g.r.m.robb@strath.ac.uk)<br>
</a><br>
2. Applications received before *Monday 18th December* will be assessed internally and one will be selected to go forward from the Department.<br>
This assessment will be based primarily on how well the candidate aligns to the eligibility criteria for the scheme and the candidate's academic quality. Note that interviews may be held, depending on the number of applicants (the student selection process
for the BBGSF scheme is part of the criteria considered by the Institute of Physics in the national competition).<br>
<br>
3. The selected applicants and supervisors apply to the IoP by *19th January 2024* at 5pm.<o:p></o:p></p>
