<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Aptos;color:black">Previous studies have demonstrated increased incidence of noise induced hearing loss in orthopaedic staff. Studies have previously focused on theatre environments; however orthopaedic
cast saws (used in the plaster room) have previously been found to emit 95-100Db to the operator's ear. Regulations surrounding occupational sound exposure
<a href="https://www.hse.gov.uk/noise/regulations.htm?" title="https://www.hse.gov.uk/noise/regulations.htm?">
can be found from the HSE</a>, and we very much suspect that the sound exposure in the plaster rooms is in excess of this guidance. We hope this audit may inform change in our practice, and investigate the need for protective equipment for our colleagues. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

of our project is the calibration of the app against a reliable standard. Hence, I'm reaching out to ask if your university department may have sound level calibration equipment, which I could possibly use to calibrate our iphone/app against? My basic understanding
of these devices is that they emit a tone of highly accurate frequency and amplitude (Typically 94Db), which I would tune our app to match. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
