ThinLinc on the server. Logins are possible from off campus as well.<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0cm;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-US">Wildebeest is also the license server for Mathematica for a couple of research groups<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0cm;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-US">Wildebeest is a virtual server with 4 CPUs, 16GB RAM, so it’s not a big server.
<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0cm;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-US">Phys-porpoise is the server with JupyyterHub installed<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0cm;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-US">Phys-porpoise also has a free version of ThinLinc for the SMBP group, to access and post process their research results.<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class="MsoListParagraph" style="margin-left:0cm;mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-US">Phys-porpoise has 16 cores, 128GB RAM, so has more heft<o:p></o:p></span></li></ul>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-US">We think the current issues with Wildebeest running slow are mostly to do with the Gnome desktop performing background searches on home folders, which is resource intensive.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-fareast-language:EN-US">The plan is to migrate Wildebeest in the next fortnight to a newer version of Linux, and to use a less intensive desktop. I hope that will resolve these issues.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
