<span style="color:#1F497D"><a href="http://www.strath.ac.uk/rdp/threeminutethesiscompetition/">Three Minute Thesis (3MTŪ) competition at Strathclyde</a></span>.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">You may be familiar with the 3MTŪ competition, which requires PhD students to describe their research in 3 minutes using only one PowerPoint slide to a non-specialist audience.
It was first developed by the University of Queensland (UQ) in 2008 and since then around 200 universities have offered a 3MTŪ competition in over 18 countries worldwide. This public engagement activity is a fantastic opportunity for our PGRs to showcase their
research whilst developing important presentation and public engagement skills. More information on the competition including example presentations can be found on the UQ

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">In this pilot year, university heats will be held before a final during Engage with Strathclyde week in May 2016. In order to best prepare PGRs for entry into this competition
the RDP team are running a one day training session (choice of two dates in January) which can be
<span style="color:#1F497D"><a href="https://bookings.strath.ac.uk/courseDetails.asp?course=TMTT">booked online</a></span>.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif""><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"">Furthermore, a
<a href="https://www.vitae.ac.uk/events/three-minute-thesis-competition">UK wide 3MTŪ competition</a> is now held annually at the Vitae Researcher Development International Conference where students have won prizes such as a Ģ3,000 grant to spend on a public
engagement activity and the opportunity to present in the famous Faraday Lecture Theatre. It is hoped that in 2016 Strathclyde will be able to put forward a University winner for the UK semi-final to showcase the research being performed at Strathclyde. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
