<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">The successful candidate will work towards professional registration as a Clinical Scientist which allows the individual to be employed as a radiotherapy physicist in any Cancer Centre in the UK and many abroad.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:black">A radiotherapy physicist is a physicist who works in a hospital primarily to ensure accuracy and safety when radiation is used for therapeutic purposes. The role is wide ranging and requires application of the
physics of radiation interactions in tissue and other materials, as well as general scientific principles, to all aspects of the clinical use of radiation. It is a mix of practical, theoretical, management, teaching, research & development work. The work is
part service delivery (for example quality control or patient dose measurement) and part research and development (for example development of processes to analyse 3D Compton scattered MV images or writing software to predict the outcome of alternative treatment
plans). The links below give some insight into the role. The most common route into the profession is by formal training through an accredited scheme but this alternative route of direct training in a clinic is more suited to physicists who already have research
experience as well as strong physics knowledge.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
