<p>The event will be held in JA317 (John Anderson Building) at 5.30pm on Thursday 7<sup>th</sup> March.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p>Prof Bell-Burnell is a graduate the University of Glasgow and the University of Cambridge. Her most famous discovery was that of pulsars (fast rotating neutron stars that emit EM radiation from their magnetic poles) in 1967 while a postgraduate student.
 This discovery would lead to the award of a Nobel Prize in 1974 to her supervisor Antony Hewish and to Sir Martin Ryle
<a href="https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/physics/1974/summary/">https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/physics/1974/summary/</a>. She served as president of the Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) from 2002 till 2004 and then as president of the Institute of Physics
 from 2008 till 2010.<o:p></o:p></p>
