Strathclyde University Physics Society
Welcome to the website of the new Physics Society, where you can find all sorts of useful & relevant stuff.
Ok, its quite likely that little, if any of it, is actually useful. Most, however, will hopefully be at the very least informative, maybe even entertaining - if you're lucky.
In this regard, may I suggest that you visit our photos section!

Guest Lecture
3pm 29/4/09 room K3.26
Light’s twist.
Prof Miles Padgett FRSE, The University of Glasgow, Scotland
It is 15 years since it was recognised that light beams could be made
in the laboratory that carried an Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM).
This OAM is independent of, and additional to, the spin associated
with circular polarisation. Since its recognition much of my own
group’s work has been the exploration of this phenomenon, ranging from
optical spanners and rotational frequency shifts to an angular form of
Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle. This lecture will, however,
concentrate upon two of my current interests, namely; the role that
angular momentum plays in the 3D structure of random speckle and most
recently a new form of quantum ghost imaging.
This event will be free for everyone, so come along!
Welcome Party 08
Our Launch Night is the 5th of November. Join the society on the night, only £3! Check our the "Events" page for more info!
Join the Society
Joining the society is the best thing a Physics student can do...
for only £3 you can enjoy all the events throughout the year.
Come find one of us or drop us an email and we'll get you sorted out.
OEMs wanted!
We're looking for new Ordinary Executive Members for the committee. Applications from any year group are welcome. This is a good oppurtunity to let us know what your year would like from the Physics Society!
