ADAS Workshop 2012

The 2012 ADAS Workshop will be held between 23 – 25 September 2012 and will be hosted by le Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique (CEA) in Cadarache, France.

The workshop is returning to Cadarache after a number of years. Cadarache is the location of the ITER project and we expect that the meeting will focus on the atomic physics requirements for future magnetic fusion needs.

We also draw your attention to the training course to be held immediately after the workshop at CEA. This is a 7 day course, 26-September – 4 October, of lectures and hands-on tutorial work on the use of ADAS. It is the annual ADAS-EU course and this year will include an introduction to hydrogen molecular modelling in ADAS. The course is open to members of all ADAS participant laboratories and universities. To register your intention to attend please contact Francisco Guzmán.

TIME AND PLACE: The ADAS Workshop will be held at the chateau at Cadarache. It will start at 9am on Monday 24^th, but we will gather at the chateau on Sunday afternoon/evening, and finish in the evening of Tuesday 25^th. There will be a tour of the ITER site on the Wednesday morning following the workshop.

ACCOMMODATION: The chateau at Cadarache is a very attractive complex of old buildings in an isolated spot north of Aix-en-Provence. It can provide full accommodation for a moderately sized workshop. We have reserved 30 rooms at the chateau but there are many B&Bs in the nearby villages if needed. We would like to confirm the chateau reservations as soon as possible, so please let us know at your earliest convenience.

COSTS: There is no registration fee for the workshop. Accommodation and full board will cost approximately €120 per night.

Hotel costs for ADAS Project steering committee members will be paid by the ADAS Project although if it is possible to be covered by your laboratory, it would help ADAS finances. Other participants will need to pay their own way.

TRAVEL: Participants will need to cover their own travel costs to the meeting.

There is a TGV station at Aix-en-Provence and the closest airport is Marseille. It takes about 50 minutes to drive from the airport, and 30 minutes from the train station, to Cadarache. We can co-ordinate shared transport to the chateau since the cost of a taxi journey is €100. There is no public transport to Cadarache on sundays but there are a number of buses from Aix, and the airport, on other days.

An alternative airport is Nice but this is 2–3 hours away.

MEETING AGENDA: A tentative agenda is being drafted and should be available mid-August. It is our usual practice to try to have most participants make a presentation so if there is something you would like to present then please let us know.

PROCEEDINGS: The workshop is an informal meeting, which traditionally does not publish its proceedings. Many people like to present material which is not yet ready for a wider audience. However we offer the opportunity to make the talks available on the ADAS website. This is completely at the discretion of the presenter.
