ADAS Workshop 2018
The 2018 ADAS Workshop will be held 9–11 December at Physikzentrum Bad Honnef in Germany.
The Institute of Energy and Climate Research (IEK-4) of Forschungszentrum Jülich FZJ are kindly hosting the 2018 meeting. It has been five years since we last held the ADAS workshop in Germany and we are delighted that the venue will be the Physikzentrum in Bad Honnef.
This centre has accommodation and is a return to the ambience of previous ADAS workshops where all the attendees stay at the venue.
Last year we experimented with moving the date of the workshop to December to avoid the over crowded September meeting season and the start of university term. This was a success so we have once again chosen a mid-December date.
DRAFT AGENDA:
A draft agenda for the workshop is available here. As it is a workshop we welcome and encourage late changes.
POST-WORKSHOP COLLOQUIUM:
On Wednesday 12th December Stuart Loch will give a presentation at Forschungszentrum Jülich which may be of interest to the workshop participants. It is on "Plasma spectral diagnostics for applications in fusion, astrophysical, and low temperature laboratory environments" and an abstract is here.
There will be transport, either by car or mini-bus, from the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef on Wednesday morning. Please let us know by email, or at the start of the workshop, if you would like to attend.
TIME AND PLACE:
The ADAS Workshop will be held at the conference center Physikzentrum Bad Honnef (PBH) run by the German Physical Society and supported by the University of Bonn and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. There will be an informal gathering on Sunday afternoon (9th December) with a social dinner that evening. The workshop will start at 9am on Monday 10th and finish late afternoon on Tuesday 11th.
Informal discussions before and between the sessions have always been an essential part of the workshop so we encourage all participants to stay at the conference centre.
COSTS AND ACCOMMODATION:
The delegate cost for the workshop is €145 which covers all meals, refreshments, the social dinner on Sunday evening and a final dinner on Tuesday evening.
The room rate is €55/night. This includes breakfast.
The cost for accompanying persons €61/night but this includes all meals, and they do not have to pay the conference fee.
The Physikzentrum Bad Honnef has a very full programme so some attendees of the meeting following the ADAS workshop will arrive on Tuesday. We have guaranteed reservations for 30 rooms so early booking, if you wish to say on Tuesday night, is recommended.
It would be helpful to know who is coming by the end of November, although a few extra participants can probably be accommodated.
REGISTRATION:
Payment for the registration and accommodation shall be made at the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef with cash, debit or credit card. Note that American Express cards are not accepted.
Registration and accommodation requests are handled by the local organizer, not with the Physikzentrum.
Please fill out this form (spreadsheet) and email it to Mrs. Angelika Hallmanns (). If there are any changes just send a new form to Mrs. Hallmanns. The centre needs to know some personal information and how this is handled is shown on the form.
Hotel and facility costs for ADAS Project steering committee members will be paid by the ADAS Project although if it is possible to be covered by your laboratory, it would help ADAS finances. Other participants will need to pay their own way.
TRAVEL:
Participants will need to cover their own travel costs to the meeting.
The closest airport is Cologne-Bonn (CGN) and there is a Regional Express (RE) train every hour from the airport which takes about 35 minutes to reach the Bad Honnef train station. Trains depart from the Cologne central station twice per hour and the journey takes 47 minutes. Bad Honnef is also on the Bonn U-Bahn network (U66).
The Physikzentrum is within walking distance of the train station (approximately 2.5km) but taxis are always available at the train station. The U-Bahn stop is 400m from the centre.
Comprehensive information on traveling to the venue can be found here.VISA AND INVITATION LETTERS:
If you need a visa to visit Germany, or a letter of invitation to attend the workshop, please contact us.
MEETING AGENDA:
A tentative agenda is being drafted and should be available mid-October. It is our usual practice to try to have most participants make a presentation so if there is something you would like to present then please let us know. We can adapt the agenda up to the start of the meeting.
PROCEEDINGS:
The workshop is an informal meeting, which traditionally does not publish its proceedings. Many people like to present material which is not yet ready for a wider audience. However we offer the opportunity to make the talks available on the ADAS website. This is completely at the discretion of the presenter.
ENQUIRIES:
The workshop is organized jointly by the University of Strathclyde and Forschungszentrum Jülich.
