Dear All
Safety Services developed an online course for the Laser Safety
Awareness Training which is as course SS04 "Radiation: Laser safety" on
myplace. It has been tested over the last months and seems to run fine
so that we want to use it as the standard training interface from now on.
So the guidance is the following
1. Any new staff/student/visitor/placement etc. how enters outside the
main window of Oct and has a Strathclyde ds account
should be pointed by the supervisor/host to the online course:
http://bookings.strath.ac.uk/courseDetails.asp?course=LBAW.
Detailed instructions are attached, on spider and will be also in
Ronnie's induction document. The request to attend the course should be
also emailed to me.
2. Any visitor/placement who doesn't have or get a Strathclyde account
for any reason should be referred to me. He/she will get a CD with the
course.
At the end of both courses there is a short assessment.
We need to decide whether we want to keep the lecture for the main
intake in Oct, especially in view of the undergraduate project students,
due to a possibly better engagement in the more practical parts. I am
happy to do that lecture though having two different induction strands
depending on time of entry might lead again to unclear guidance. Views
on this are welcome before the next safety committee on May 23. Ronnie
is aiming also on a slightly different treatment of the intake in Oct
compared to the rest of the year. Hence it seems we will have two
different strands anyway.
Booking for the lecture would run via
http://bookings.strath.ac.uk/courseDetails.asp?course=PHLA
Afterwards, they can do the assessment online and use the course for
reference.
As indicated details are attached and on spider. As Ronnie points out in
his guidance, it is the responsibility of the supervisor to identify the
necessary training and point the student towards the course.
Regards
Thorsten
