We are pleased with the initial response to the summer Grant Challenge scheme from the Science Faculty and thank you for encouraging staff to take part. We would still encourage others to join in to maximise the impact of this scheme.

We would like to reiterate that the initiative is intended to facilitate grant writing over the summer for researchers at all levels – from junior staff/postdocs to established professors.

Could you please distribute the message below along with the attached – these are the guidelines for the first meeting on June 2012 to give staff a feel for what is to be expected at the first session.

SUMMER GRANT CHALLENGE 2012
Are you planning to submit a research proposal to EPSRC or BBSRC over the summer? Then why not join the University’s SUMMER GRANT CHALLENGE 2012. This initiative will help you get your grant written and submitted by the end of summer by taking advantage of peer-to-peer support, guidance and deadlines.

The scheme will take place over a 12 week period during June-August. It involves the writing of the grant in three stages, will include three short peer-to-peer meetings and some general guidance on impact statements and costings.

Submitting your grant over the summer allows you to take advantage of the increased funding available for responsive mode proposals from EPSRC during 2012-13; or prepares for the September deadline for BBSRC.
