[Academic] Fwd: New Expenses Policy

Dear All,

Those of you who read "weekly digest" may have spotted the new expenses 
policy - there are several changes. I attach a summary from the Dean 
with additions from me marked by **

The new expenses claim form is attached as well as the policy document.

Changes that I see, which are worth noting, because claims will just get 
bounced are:

9.10.8 Mileage allowance increased to 45p per mile.  But you may need to 
produce an insurance certificate to prove the car is insured for 
business purposes.

11.The £5-a-day block allowance for subsistence is removed

11.3No payment for alcohol on trips [so no claims for a beer at the 
airport after an arduous day in London!].  Reinforced in 11.4 (** but 
note 13.8 which allows alcohol in "business entertainment" meals

11.4Limits on subsistence claims

12.Tips can only be claimed if they are included as a service charge

13.7 and 13.8.  Policy on alcohol and Business Entertainment.  Note the 
issue over 'no alcohol during the working day'.

14.1 No funding of Christmas parties and other staff functions (** I 
note the word "advises" and don't take this as a total ban for staff 
functions - we will see)

17.2 No claims for membership of professional bodies or journals.


** 7.4. claims should be submitted within 2 months
** 9.13 Bicycles are in at 20p/mile but not if its a cycle to work bike!
