Dear All,
Kayleigh has recently put out a call for Level 3, 4 and 5 examination papers. Can I remind you that for all classes bar PH 350 Experimental Physics and PH 451 Physics Skills the examination paper should be 3 hours in duration and comprise Section A containing basic questions that cover the key learning outcomes of the course worth 40 % and Section B comprising more demanding questions that explore a students understanding of the subject. This section should be worth 60 % of the marks. Can I remind you all to inform the students of the number of questions that they will be expected to answer in Section B. For PH 350 Experimental Physics the examination paper should be two hours in duration.
When you supply Kayleigh with draft solutions please do not "cut and paste" lecture notes into the solutions. One of the External Examiners is keen for us to supply handwritten solutions, so that you have an idea of the time it takes the student to write out the solution. If you supply typed solutions or list the key points expected in a discursive question then please give an indication of the time expected for the students to write this out. Further more can you clearly mark on the solutions, with a side-bar, whether the work is seen / seen-similar / unseen.
Kayleigh will circulate a re-drafted version of the examination checker sheet.
Thanks
Nigel
