Please note two deadlines (May, Sept) for 'big equipment' from EPSRC.

Information has been passed on by David Littlejohn. One of the touchstones is 'benefit' to the wider community.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some central coordination of this.

Please disseminate the following information within your institution;

Dear Research Officers

EPSRC have now set a timetable for the Strategic Equipment funding process for individual items of equipment over the OJEU threshold (currently £135,668) for 2013.

The next two deadlines for submission of strategic equipment draft business cases will be:

• 10 May 2013 at 16.00 - a sift meeting will be held in June and successful applicants will be invited to submit full proposals in October 2013 for a panel meeting in November 2013.

• 6 September 2013 at 16.00 - a sift meeting will be held in October and successful applicants will be invited to submit full proposals in January 2014 for a panel meeting in March 2014.

Business cases should be submitted via email to EPSRCEquipmentFunding at epsrc.ac.uk<mailto:EPSRCEquipmentFunding at epsrc.ac.uk>.

More information on the process can be found here: http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/ourportfolio/themes/researchinfrastructure/subthemes/equipment/process/Pages/sep1.aspx

Guidance for applicants and assessment criteria can be found here: http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/ourportfolio/themes/researchinfrastructure/subthemes/equipment/process/Pages/apply.aspx
• Applicants are particularly reminded that the assessment criteria for the sift process are as follows:
• - Is the research area or areas that the equipment will underpin a priority to EPSRC?
• - How much similar equipment that could support research in this area or areas is currently available to the research community?
• - What is the scope of the research that would benefit from this equipment? Community co-ordinated requests will be viewed favourably.

At the outline stage, applicants are encouraged to give a reasoned argument to show how the research enabled by the equipment requested supports EPSRC's strategic priorities.

Enquiries should be directed to the theme contacts which can be found on the EPSRC web site by following the link above.
