Subject: BBSRC Grant Challenge - 24 April 2013 deadline
Date: Mon, Feb 25, 2013 17:23

Dear Directors of Research

Thank you for alerting your colleagues to this initiative. We have enough uptake to run the event but are keen to maximise this opportunity.

Could you please send your colleagues a reminder to sign up for the BBSRC Challenge by close of play tomorrow?

Many thanks,

Rein

Dear All

You have been identified as someone who might be thinking about submitting a grant proposal to the BBSRC for the next deadline of 24th of April.

As you might be aware, both submission and success rates for BBSRC are currently poor for Strathclyde. We intend to address this issue via ‘Grant Challenge’ scheme, a mechanism of deadlines, peer-to-peer support and low level guidance. The Challenge mechanism has worked very well in achieving the objective of grant submission (and grant success) over the last summer period. Feedback suggested that deadlines and peer support help to prioritise grant writing. Friendly feedback in a group context has helped to improve the quality of grants submitted.

The challenge scheme would involve working in themed peer groups, with 3 intermediate deadlines, that help you put the grant together in steps, while obtaining peer support at each stage. If you are interested in taking part, please email Josephine Dick (copied) by February 26nd and she will keep you informed when dates become available.

Please feel free to pass this message on to additional colleagues who may benefit from this scheme.

Best wishes

Rein
