Dear colleagues


You may have seen some of the publicity recently around pensions 
auto-enrolment.  The University's staging date is 1 May 2013.  Given 
that each of you have significant numbers of research staff in your 
areas, where there is a high concentration of current non membership of 
pension scheme, I thought it would be helpful to flag that the 
University will be holding information sessions during the month of 
March to highlight the issue of pensions auto enrolment which some staff 
may wish to attend.  The dates, times and venues are below.  These 
sessions are aimed at people who are *not* currently enrolled in the 
pension scheme; there will be no impact on those who are already 
enrolled in USS, LGS or TSS.

The implications of auto enrolment are greatest for those who regularly 
earning above the auto enrolment threshold (more than £787 per month) 
where there is an obligation for the University to auto enrol into a 
pension scheme, for most this will be USS.

Webpages providing information about auto-enrolment have been launched 
and can be found on the Finance website 
<http://www.strath.ac.uk/finance/financialservices/payrollpensions/pensionautoenrolment/#d.en.698160>.  
In addition posters will be placed on noticeboards across the campus 
highlighting the impending changes.  These posters give the relevant web 
address and contact details for the Pensions Team.  We will also be 
attaching an information factsheet to payslips in March to draw 
attention to the changes.

Please let me know if you have any queries on the above.  General 
queries on auto enrolment should be sent to the Pensions Team within 
Finance and a dedicated e-mail address has been set up for this 
(autoenrolment at strath.ac.uk <mailto:autoenrolment at strath.ac.uk>).  In 
the meantime if you feel it would be appropriate to share the above 
information through PIs please do so.
