Dear Colleague,

I am**emailing to inform you**that a*safeTALK* suicide alertness 
training is being offered at the University on Thursday 18^th April from 
1.30 -- 4.30pm.

I would be grateful if you would forward this email to colleagues who 
may be interested in participating in this course.  It is open to all 
the University community, both staff and students and offers an 
opportunity to work together to develop skills and confidence to support 
others in the University and the wider community.

*safeTALK* is for everyone and you will learn how to recognise people 
who may have thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide 
intervention resources. It prepares you to activate a suicide alert by 
following the TALK ( Tell, Ask, Listen and Keep Safe) steps and provide 
practical help to people with thoughts of suicide. The focus of the 
training is on positive learning, encouragement of open and honest talk, 
respect for differences, mutual support and active participation. 
Evaluation of *safeTALK *showed participants felt more likely to 
recognise the signs of someone at risk, to approach the person, ask them 
directly whether they were having thoughts of suicide and be able to 
connect them to help.

The facilitator will be Stewart Moore, a 'Choose Life' trainer from the 
national strategy and action plan to prevent suicide in Scotland.
