Subject: Opportunity to recoup international travel costs

Strathclyde was awarded ~£500K from the EPSRC to help build global engagements in research in the US and far East.   The project end date was 31st March 2013 and at the moment we have an underspend.



I was wondering if you have visited an institution in N. America, China, Japan, Korea, India or Singapore to discuss research collaborations between 1st April 2012 - 31st March 2013 (these dates are non-negotiable) or have hosted an academic/researcher/PhD student from any of these countries.  There is no guarantee at this time but we may be able to cover a proportion of the travel/subsistence costs through the global engagement budget as long as the expenses have not already been claimed from another publicly funded project which has ended.  If the money has been claimed from a publicly funded project and we are able to vire the money from the Global budget to the one that was used this should be ok.



Please note that the grant cannot be used where the main aim of the visit was to attend a conference or for student recruitment trips etc.



At this point I would only need information about where you/a colleague went (University and Country) for what,  approx. ££ and where how it was funded

Sorry, I saw this email when it came through first time around but could not think of anyone in particular.

What you may want to do is ask Bronagh to send an email around the entire faculty with a catchy subject line ("opportunity to recoup international travel costs" or similar) and in the email explain what the requirements are.

Hi Rein

Are you able to think of particular people in Science who may have travelled in the last year for activities aligned to the GER project?

I've contacted all HoD's in Science & Engineering and have had a much better response from Engineering.  Not sure if it's because there is less activity in Science or people just aren't responding to my emails!
