Dear All,

Please see below - it would be really good to have some top Physics names suggested for Honorary Degrees. Next year is 50th anniversary of the University Charter.

We've had some difficulties with Dept. nominations in recent years and I'm struggling to get feedback on what is sought .... but I don't want us to "take our bats home".

Regards

Rob

HONORARY DEGREES – NOMINATIONS SOUGHT
Honorary degrees are awarded for a variety of reasons, to recognise excellence in whatever area(s) of life the individual has achieved this, for example outstanding academic achievement; individuals who have brought distinction to public service and civic society; and particular individuals who have worked with and assisted the University, where no other formal mechanism of reward exists. Nominations received by Friday 22 November will be put forward for consideration at the next meeting of the Honorary Degree Advisory Panel. Further information regarding the criteria and nomination process can be found online<http://www.strath.ac.uk/honorarydegrees/>.

It’s important that all of us think seriously about suggestions for these. There is an aim to create a Science-specific honorary degree ceremony in May/Jun 2014 as part of the Golden Julbilee/50th anniversary celebrations. Whether we can achieve that or will move towards a theme-based ceremony (e.g. using TIC themes) as has been suggested, we need to have nominations.
