Subject: Strategic Technology Partnership - PhD Funding Support; First Call
Dear All,
Please see the attached and the email below.
You will see that the topics of interest are of most relevance to M&S, CIS, Physics and SIPBS - Big Data, Health Technologies, IT solutions, etc - but it would be useful for all staff to see this initiative. This is the start of a long term and hopefully growing strategic partnership with Capita (and also IBM and Dell going forward) and so more opportunities/mechanisms will come out in the near future.
The deadline is very soon - 20th Nov - but the application is brief - 2 sides of A4 and so I would encourage all interested staff to apply.
Thanks
Tony

Subject: Strategic Technology Partnership - PhD Funding Support; First Call
Sent on behalf of Professor Billy Kerr, Chair of the Digital Campus Sub-Committee and Partnership Contributions Sub-Committee, aligned to the University’s Strategic Technology Partnership
Dear Colleagues,
The University of Strathclyde has appointed Capita as its Strategic Technology Partner. Capita’s role is to utilise their technology experts’ and partners’ knowledge, innovation, and ideas to help the University implement an ambitious programme to transform its information systems, services, and capabilities over the next five years.
A further key feature of this partnership is our additional focus on the University’s strategic objectives and outcomes. To this end, a joint Partnership Contribution Fund has been created with the University, to allow the support of research, teaching, and knowledge exchange activities. This contribution to the University’s strategic outcomes will produce valuable business benefits for Capita, the University, and other collaborative partners, as well as enhanced educational and employability benefits for students and graduates.
In the first year of the Partnership, funding has been aligned to PhD research studentship support at the University of Strathclyde starting in academic year 2014/15. This communication now alerts colleagues to the first call for studentship proposals in relation to this support.
The focus of the proposed research should be in line with the University’s research strengths and priorities, and connected to Capita’s business interests. The attached document provides further details, alongside a suggested mapping to academic research disciplines.
In addition to Capita business alignment, the following will be used in the adjudication and ranking of bids: (i) research excellence; (ii) KE and wider impact potential; (iii) multi-disciplinary features; (iv) vision for continuity and future research support; (v) aligned PhD student excellence (if relevant); and (vi) to allow the levels of overall support to be maximised, with the limited available funds, indications of any potential Faculty- or Departmental-level gearing.
Proposals documents should be up to 2 x A4 pages in length.
Deadline for submissions: 20 November 2013
Submissions should be made to informationstrategy at strath.ac.uk<mailto:informationstrategy at strath.ac.uk>
Please distribute within Faculties and Departments as appropriate.
Kind Regards,
Yvonne Lindsay
