[Academic] Fwd: Global Innovation Initiative - opportunity for funding international travel

Dear all

Please see below a funding opportunity available from the British 
Council that I thought you might be interested in.  If you are, please 
let Linda Wallace and I know, we would be more than happy to meet with 
you to discuss and help support the bid.  Please also pass this on to 
any colleagues who you think this may appeal to.

*The Global Innovation Initiative* is a joint effort of the *United 
States* and the *United Kingdom* to strengthen global multilateral 
collaboration through grants to university consortia focusing on 
science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-related issues 
of global significance that foster cutting-edge multinational research 
and strengthen institutional international partnerships. The initiative 
anticipates funding at least 10 grants of between *£100K - £150K.*

*Themes*

Proposals that address the following STEM-related themes will be 
accepted for the first year's competition:

·Energy, environment and climate change;

·Agriculture, food security and water;

·Global health and wellbeing;

·Urbanisation.

*Eligibility*

New or existing research partnerships comprised of at least one higher 
education institution in the UK, the US, and at least one of the 
countries listed below are invited to apply for a Global Innovation 
Initiative grant:

·Brazil;

·China;

·India;

·Indonesia.

The project will be expected to comment after 1 April 2014 and conclude 
within 2 years, proposed activities may include but are not limited to:

·Developing student, faculty & staff, and researcher mobility for 
research purposes;

·Creating interdisciplinary research collaboration;

·Collaborating on degrees and other approached to learning and teaching;

·Travel to and presentation at major academic conferences; and

·Convening panel discussions or symposia.
