Dear Professor Martin

I have received applications from a number of students (over 400!)  who wish to take part in the Nuffield Placement scheme this year, with over 55% coming from the Widening Participation group of schools,.  A number of the students are hoping to study Physics at University and as such are looking to obtain a physics-based placement during the summer.

I would be most grateful if any of your colleagues would consider offering some students a physics related placement.  Please find attached a table with details of 7 applicants for your consideration.  I do appreciate that it is unlikely that all 7 applicants  will be able to be placed.  However, I would be most grateful if you and your colleagues would give them consideration.

The table includes qualifications (subjects and grades achieved last year at SG/Int2 and the courses they are studying this year at Higher level and predicted grades), personal statement, outside interests and teacher reference (I am chasing up missing references).

I would be most grateful if you/colleagues could get back to me with your thoughts.  If you wish to meet one or  more students before you make any decisions, then please let me know and I can ask them to get in touch with you/colleagues.
