Dear All

Marie Henderson from RKES will visit the department on Tuesday 23rd September between 9.30 - 12.30 in JA8.24. Marie will be on hand to provide information on funder mandates. Please see extract below for further information.

Please take the opportunity to drop in to discuss any queries you may have or alternatively to seek advice.

Many thanks

Kirsten

"As you know much of the research undertaken at Strathclyde comes from public funds, notably the RCUK (Research Councils UK)<http://www.rcuk.ac.uk/research/datapolicy/>, which includes: EPSRC; AHRC; ESRC; NERC, STFC, et al; as part of the terms and conditions of such public funding, recipients have to comply with certain expectations and principles, often referred to as 'funder mandates'; failure to comply may lead to the withdrawal of funding and a halt to future funding streams.

Given the frequency and quality of Strathclyde's funded research I am sure you will recognise the importance of ensuring that all researchers are fully informed and guided throughout this process. This is where the Research Data Management and Sharing Project comes in. The RDMS project has been specifically set-up to help researchers create data management plans and to provide support with research data management - in order to ensure compliance with funder mandates.

One of the things we hope to achieve is to speak to every Strathclyde researcher (PGR student onwards) to inform them about all of the guidance and services (extra storage space for research data and a cloud platform/'StrathCloud') we have on offer. In order to do this I was hoping to set-up a presentation desk in a public area of your department/centre/school, where I could distribute info about our project and ensure that everyone is aware of their obligations with regards to research data management. I have a laptop and project pop-up stand, as well as some literature.

As an exemplar, I have attached a document which details EPSRC's expectations and principles- as you see, the 'Research Organisation', namely the University of Strathclyde, is obliged to comply as well as the individual researcher - ergo there is an onus on all Strathclyde staff to facilitate compliance - your help and assistance in achieving this is greatly appreciated."
