Dear All
As you are probably aware, the department was quite successful with
recruiting PGT students this year and have 14 students. The flip side of
this is that we need 14 projects for them.
The students were strongly encouraged to contact potential supervisors
in areas of their interest, but as I did not hear anything I assume that
not much happened in that direction. Hence I am asking for suggestions
for projects. We are looking for
1. Four projects for Optical Technologies MSc in the Optics Division,
Plasma division, Nanoscience division (in particular the
not-so-nanoscience optical groups in the nanoscience division), possibly
also IOP.
2. One project for an Applied/Advanced Physics MSc, any division (he
might be actually interested in quantum optics)
3. Two projects for the Microfabrication MSc at the IOP (dealt with
already, thanks!)
4. Seven projects for Nanoscience from Nanoscience or chemistry.
I attach the template.
*** Please return suggestions to me till Wed, Jan 28 ****
for the Optical Technology and Appl/Adv Phys. (The Nanoscience part has
time till middle of sem 2.) Please add 2nd supervisor(s) to ensure
supervision over the holiday periods in summer.
The project should be assigned then in the first week(s) of semester 2.
The students should read the 2 papers in the project description, search
for another 1-2 papers, meet the supervisor about 2 times and then give
a talk and possibly poster on it on 29th or 30th of April. This is part
of the assessment for PH951.
*** The advantage of suggesting a project early is that the students can
also still adjust their choice of level 5 or level 4 course in semester
2 to the needs of the project. ***
Project start: Middle of June
Report hand-in: 4/9/15
Projects talks: 14/9/15 (tentative)
Project vivas: 15/9/15 (tentative)
Thanks
Thorsten
