Dear All,
As you will have seen Nigel Langford has been appointed to the role of Associate Dean (International Student Recruitment). This is great news for someone keen to take on a new challenge - it is less so for a Department, that then has to absorb a significant teaching and administrative load. As you all know Nigel has been topping the load model for a while. I have asked him to continue as Director of Teaching and take more of a role of providing leadership for the Department and overseeing that things happen rather than actually doing them. Also, the new role is likely to involve significant travel, so it is pretty incompatible with an actual teaching load. The upshot of this is that we will be around knocking on doors in order to distribute the load fairly across the Department. Your cooperation will be appreciated.
Furthermore I would like to mention that the financial situation for the Department is such that we are going to have to use student demonstrators only where absolutely necessary. Hence, we are looking to increase the number of academics involved in the teaching laboratories.
Have a good weekend
Erling
