Dear Heads of Department and Directors of Teaching

Having taken up the post of VDA I have entered into the discussions regarding the shape of the academic year. It is clear that the plan is to have examinations before Christmas by the 2016/17 academic session. Attached are the three options being considered to achieve this.



Option 1 maintains the same start date as this year but shortens each semester to 11 weeks of teaching.

Option 2 starts teaching one week earlier than this academic year but maintains 12 weeks of teaching in each semester.

Option 3 involves a ???hybrid??? transition week in week 7 where new students have a transition week and then 11 weeks of study and continuing students have a 12 week semester.



I have been asked to reflect back the views of the Faculty so that this can be taken forward. Could you please discuss within your departments and let me know your views by Friday 16th October? Many thanks.
