Subject: Strategic Technology Partnership – PhD Funding Support for 2016-17

Sent on behalf of Professor Billy Kerr, Associate Deputy Principal (Research and Knowledge Exchange)

Dear Colleagues,

The University of Strathclyde appointed Capita as its Strategic Technology Partner in June 2013 for up to five years. Capita’s role is to utilise their technology experts’ and partners’ knowledge, innovation, and ideas to help the University implement an ambitious programme to transform its information systems, services, and capabilities over this five year period.

A further key feature of this partnership is our additional focus on the University’s strategic objectives and outcomes. To this end, a joint Partnership Contribution Fund has been created with the University, to allow the support of research, teaching, and knowledge exchange activities. This contribution to the University’s strategic outcomes will produce valuable business benefits for Capita, the University, and other collaborative partners, as well as enhanced educational and employability benefits for students and graduates.

In the third year of the Partnership, funding has, again, been aligned to PhD research studentship support at the University of Strathclyde starting in academic year 2016/17. This communication now alerts colleagues to this third call for studentship proposals in relation to this support.

The focus of the proposed research should be in line with the University’s research strengths and priorities, and connected to Capita’s business interests. The attached document provides further details, alongside a suggested mapping to academic research disciplines.

In addition to Capita business alignment, the following will be used in the adjudication and ranking of bids: (i) research excellence; (ii) KE and wider impact potential; (iii) multi-disciplinary features; (iv) vision for continuity and future research support; and (v) to allow the levels of overall support to be maximised, with the limited available funds, indications of any potential Faculty- or Departmental-level gearing. With regards the latter, where possible, indication of potential support funds should be inserted into the proposal submission.

Proposals documents should be up to 2 x A4 pages in length.

Deadline for submissions: 12 February 2016

Submissions should be made to informationstrategy at strath.ac.uk<mailto:informationstrategy at strath.ac.uk>

Please distribute within Faculties and Departments as appropriate.

Kind regards,
Graham
