Dear All,
As mentioned at the DC last week, we are approaching the time of year when PGR offers need to be made and we need to clarify the position in the department regarding allocation of our studentship quota for the year 2016/17. As such, I am requesting all applications to the SEA scheme to be complete on the pgrapps system by first thing on Monday 21st (March 18th was stated at the DC but this new deadline allows applications submitted over the weekend).
This message applies to all supervisors planning to make an application to the SEA (Student Excellence Award) scheme. I have spoken to most interested parties but there may be others of you that I don't know about. Briefly, you will need:
1) A Pegasus application from your proposed candidate. The candidate will need to be academically 'excellent'. This normally means a 1st class undergraduate degree or Masters-level post-grad qualification as a minimum. Additional awards or prizes will strengthen the application. Please note that SEA will only cover UK/EU students unless you wish to find funding for the remaining international fees contribution (~£13k pa).
2) A conditional offer to the student at least underway on Pegasus - this can be achieved by liaising with Audrey.
3) A proposed route to funding the supervisor contribution. This currently stands at £4.8k pa. As mentioned at the DC we are hoping to be in a position to reduce this slightly but this will not be confirmed quite yet so we need to make provision for the full amount.
4) Justification as to why the student is 'excellent' - if the student is known to you (eg a Strathclyde undergrad) then a simple email is fine. If they are external candidates then at least one reference will be needed.
Finally, please make an application via the PGRapps system:
https://pgrapps.strath.ac.uk/login.php
You will be able to log in via your DS details - please select SRSS applications and proceed from there. Please complete the details and funding parts of the application. I attach a demonstration of how to complete the funding page for a 3.5 yr application. Please note that I have used the DG1009 (PGR) account in this example but that is the place where you put your alternative source of funding (DG1009 is not an option!).
Any question please let me know.
Best wishes,
Neil
