Hi Daniel,
I have got one question concerning the PH450 projects. I have got a student (Joshua Robertson) who completed last year with me his PH450 project. He is to continue this year with me on the same project as part of his Masters Programme. Then my question is: how many PH450 projects am I supposed to propose, 2 or 3 given that I already have a continuing student in his fifth year.
Regards,
Antonio

Dear All,
Just a reminder to send me your new and revised projects (and to let me know if you aren't running projects from last year's project booklet). Thanks to those who have already done so.
Regards,
Daniel.

Subject: Request for PH450 Projects by 26/8/2016
Dear All,
We will need approximately 100 projects for 4th year students this year. It would be good if the load could be spread evenly across the department (i.e. ~3 projects per academic/senior researcher).
By default, I will assume that the same projects will run this year as last year unless otherwise advised (last year's project list attached). Please inform me of any changes and of any new projects by Friday 26th August 2016. There is a blank project form (also attached) for any altered or new projects.
We ask staff to consider:
- Offering at least 3 projects each
- Offering a project to be taken by a pair of students, separately with minor variations
- Offering a project title to a 4th year student that is already being taken by a 5th year student
New staff especially, please consider offering more than one topics. You may want to have a more experienced staff member as 2nd supervisor to help become familiar with procedures. The 1st supervisor can be an academics, senior research fellow, Chancellor Fellows or similar (i.e. if you are allowed to supervise PhD students, you can be a 1st supervisor on an undergraduate project). The 2nd supervisor can be any of the previous or any post-doc.
Please note the following dates (TBC):
- Wednesdays 15th and 22nd February 2017, Project Talks 1300-1730
- Week of 17th April 2017, Project Vivas
It is important that supervisors (1st and 2nd) be present at the project talks, and that the viva committee (primary supervisor, independent marker, chair) be available during the Viva week.
Thanks,
Daniel.
PH450 Co-ordinator
