Subject: Call for RAS Research and Norman Lockyer Fellowships 2017 - with mended link

The RAS will award  one Research Fellowship and one Norman Lockyer Fellowship in 2017, to begin on 1 October 2017 or within 6 months thereafter. Each fellowship provides post-doctoral funding for up to three years.

The RAS fellowships are offered to outstanding candidates to enable them to pursue research in the UK in the disciplines advanced by the RAS i.e. astronomy, solar system science, geophysics and closely related branches of these sciences. Applicants must have been awarded their PhD between 1 October 2012 and 1 October 2017. Only one RAS Research Fellowship may be held in the same university at any one time.  The Norman Lockyer Fellowship is awarded to enable an outstanding researcher to devote the majority of their time to research on an astronomical topic, including solar system and planetary science. They are named after Sir Norman Lockyer (1836-1920), pioneering solar astronomer and discoverer of helium.

The deadline for applications is 23:59 (BST), 21 October 2016. We expect to make offers for both positions in the first week of February 2017 (date to be confirmed).
